2004-05 Lauble Fellows Announced
Celebrating its 10th year, the Stephen M. Lauble Community Fellowships encourage graduate students at the Heinz School to apply their skills and choose careers that will make a contribution to the neighborhoods, economy and environment of Pittsburgh.
This year's recipients are Jonathan K. Ward and Timothy White, graduate students in the Heinz School's Master of Science in Public Policy and Management program who will graduate this spring. Each Lauble Fellow receives an internship with a local Pittsburgh public or nonprofit agency, in addition to book support. Fellows are also eligible to receive an additional award if they take a full time position in the public or nonprofit sector in the region after graduation.
Jonathan's internship was with the Urban Redevelopment Authority in the Business Technology Center and Timothy worked with the Allegheny County Department of Economic Development.
"Both Jonathan and Tim are exemplary students," notes Heinz School dean Mark Wessel, "and we are thrilled that they have been selected for this honor. Now more than ever, the region needs the energy and new ideas of our young people, and the Heinz School is pleased to do what it can to encourage our talented students to remain here and work for the good of Pittsburgh."
The Lauble Fellowship was established in 1995 to honor the memory of Heinz School alumnus Steve Lauble, Class of 1993, who was a dedicated citizen of Pittsburgh. Since then, 24 students have been named Lauble fellows. This year's recipients were recognized at the Heinz School's Network Pittsburgh reception on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at PNC Park. City Councilman William Peduto was on hand to help present the fellowship awards to the students.
