Sanchez Selected as Agricultural Attaché to the U.S. Embassy Beijing, China
USDA/FAS employees usually work at least four to five years before passing rigorous tests to convert to a Foreign Service career; Sanchez has accomplished this at the age of 27 after just one year as a permanent employee of USDA/FAS.
Sanchez was exposed to the USDA/FAS after a summer internship in Washington, DC as a Heinz School student. In the spring of 2003 he completed an international internship with the OAA Mexico City and upon his return to Washington he managed global trade analysis for the U.S. stone fruit and avocado industry. Jorge returned to the Heinz school in 2003 to complete his final degree requirements and was hired as a permanent employee with USDA/FAS in 2004. According to Sanchez, “The Heinz School curriculum instilled relevant and versatile skills highly applicable to the field of international agriculture.”
Jorge Sanchez MSPPM 04 was recently admitted to the United States Foreign Service. Sanchez will represent U.S. agricultural interests in China as a diplomatic emissary to the Secretary of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS). He has been selected to serve as an Agricultural Attaché in the Agency’s most prominent Post, the Office of Agricultural Affairs (OAA) in the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, China. Sanchez will work on United States/China bilateral issues including market access, trade policy, market intelligence, marketing strategies, food assistance, and scientific and technical exchanges.
