Reorienting U.S. Drug Policy
Jonathon P. Caulkins, Professor of Operations Research and Public Policy, discusses the changes in illegal drug problems in the United States and the need to change policy in Issues in Science and Technology.
Caulkins has been on the Heinz School faculty since 1990. He has served as co-director of RAND’s Drug Policy Research Center in Santa Monica (1994-1996), established RAND’s Pittsburgh Office (1999-2001), and currently teaches at Carnegie Mellon’s campus in Doha, Qatar (2005-present). His primary research interest is modeling the effectiveness of interventions related to drugs, crime, violence, delinquency, and prevention.
Issues in Science & Technology is a forum for discussion of public policy related to science, engineering, and medicine and a venue for researchers, government officials, business leaders, and others with a stake in public policy can share ideas and offer specific suggestions.
