New Issue of HSR Examines Modern Health Care Policy

In 2005, the number of uninsured Americans rose to 46.6 million, raising concerns over the best way to “fix” America’s health care system. Seeking to add further insights into this debate, Heinz School students have released the fall 2006 issue of the Heinz School Review (HSR), which examines modern healthcare policy.

This issue examines modern healthcare from a variety of perspectives and includes two interviews with leading practitioners: Dr. Jonathan Gruber, Professor of Economics at MIT, and Dr. Karen Feinstein, President and CEO of the Jewish Healthcare Foundation.  Additional articles explore themes of price controls on pharmaceuticals, rural healthcare in India, mental health parity, outsourcing care and comprehensive care for HIV/AIDS.

The HSR is a student conceived and student-run online public policy journal from the H. John Heinz III School of Public Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University. This “paperless” journal is published twice a year in a web-based format and is available to the public, free of charge.  HSR seeks to create a vibrant community of discourse affecting social change while retaining the school’s unique, interdisciplinary approach to examining societal issues. Each issue features applied research focused on public policy, public and non-profit management and technology. In keeping with HSR’s mission to maintain the highest academic integrity, articles are subject to a peer review process.
