Alumni Association Board Launches PPIA Fundraising Campaign

The Heinz School Alumni Association Board (AAB) has announced the selection of the Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) Summer Institute as the focus of its 2006-07 fundraising efforts.

Targeting qualified and motivated minority undergraduates following their junior year, the PPIA program provides an entrée to public policy programs at Carnegie Mellon and other prestigious institutions. Students in classroonFounded at Carnegie Mellon as the Quantitative Skills Summer Institute (QSSI), in subsequent years the program received funding from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and the Woodrow Wilson Institute.  Today, the summer institutes are funded primarily by the university hosts.

“In these times of declining resources, the legacy of diversity that has been a hallmark and driving force of the Heinz School is in danger of being lost. In light of this challenge, the AAB is focusing its efforts on supporting the Heinz School in offering this outstanding program,” according to AAP President Kent Benjamin MSPPM 1990. The PPIA Program and its predecessors have helped to inspire the careers of many successful Heinz School Alumni.  The AAB wants to encourage many more dynamic young people to earn a Heinz School degree and apply their talents to the public interest.

Alumni are encouraged to support the PPIA Program this year.  You may make a gift at the Heinz School development page
