Mayor Luke Ravenstahl Presents Lauble Award to Heinz School Students
Lance Chimka and Jessica Mooney, both second year students at the Heinz School, were recognized Friday, February 2nd as the 2006-2007 Stephen M. Lauble Community Fellowship awardees. The awards ceremony preceded Carnegie Mellon’s Network Pittsburgh reception at PNC Park.
City of Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl served as keynote speaker. Mayor Ravenstahl shared his vision for the future of Pittsburgh with the nearly 100 attendees, saying that he hopes to further engage young people in the region. He invited the students in attendance to remain in Pittsburgh, reminding them that, “We need your help as a city and need to rely on
you to help the city grow.” Mayor Ravenstahl also joined Heinz School Dean Mark Wessel to present Lance and Jessica with their awards.
Lance and Jessica both completed their Lauble internships with Allegheny County’s Department of Economic Development. They worked together to develop and implement the Allegheny Together revitalization program that targets main streets and traditional business districts in the county.
The Stephen M. Lauble Community Fellowship encourages committed public policy students at the Heinz School to choose careers that make a contribution to the city’s economic and community development. The family and friends of Steve Lauble established the fellowship in memory of Steve, a 1993 Heinz School alumnus whose academic and community work exemplified a commitment to Pittsburgh. The fellowship is funded by annual contributions from alumni and friends. It has been awarded to more than 25 students since 1995.
