Nikhil George

Nikhil George is a Ph.D. student at the Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy.

I am on the academic job market in 2022-23 and interested in positions with information systems departments. Find my CV and JMP.

I am an information systems researcher whose interests lie in the broad area of digital transformation of work and entertainment.

At CMU, my advisors are Rahul Telang and Ramayya Krishnan. My work with them takes up how large organizations can leverage readily available data, to identify valuable skill-building interventions, that is consistent with employee and employer interests. We focus on efficient ways of extracting signal from organizational data and incorporating it into decision making. Using administrative data to support employee career mobility is a valuable opportunity brought forth by the digital transformation of workplaces. I am interested in pursuing research projects related to technology careers; how employees make choices and firms compete in a complex labor market.
Additionally, I am interested in the topic of algorithmic worker management. In platforms offering services like grocery shopping and food delivery, data and algorithms order workers and assign them jobs which determine the earnings distribution on the platform. The computational and economic features of such settings merit studying and I am keen to engage with researchers, firms and other stakeholders interested in these topics.

With Siddhartha Sharma, I study how the advent of streaming services, which has transformed how content is distributed and consumed, has changed what conent is produced.
