Python Programming II

90-819

Units: 6

Description

The world has been transformed by data. With more information available than ever before, the ability to generate, understand, and make connections with data is now an essential skill for everyone. Python has been at the heart of this transformation and Python Programming II extends foundational programming skills to the world of data science.

Students will gain exposure to common data science workflows, from acquiring and cleaning real-world datasets to conducting meaningful analysis and building engaging visualizations and narratives that drive evidence-based decisions. Throughout the course, students will learn to create reproducible analyses and sharable documents that allow others to
understand, verify, and build upon their work.

Please note: Students who have taken this course should not take Data Focused Python, except for MPP-DA students. Students who have taken Data Focused Python should not take this course.

Learning Outcomes

• Use Python tooling to navigate data science workflows with Jupyter Notebooks and
Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) such as VS Code.
• Connect to diverse data sources and data formats including flat files, databases, APIs, and
web content.
• Apply specialized Python packages such as pandas and matplotlib to explore real-world data
problems.
• Create effective data visualizations and hone data storytelling skills to support evidencebased
decisions.
• Understand how AI can accelerate your coding work and how to
leverage foundational models programmatically.
• Write clean, reproducible, and well-documented code following software development best
practices.
