TRAVEL, LODGING, AND LOGISTICAL INFORMATION


SHB special rates for hotels. Rooms are being held at the Courtyard by Marriott Shadyside/Oakland  and Wyndham Garden Hotel. The cut-off date for Wyndham Garden is May 1st; there is no cut-off date for Shadyside Inn, but the special rates are on a first-come first-served basis. Travel grants for students

The National Science Foundation will be funding travel grants to help undergraduate or graduate students from any US university to visit SHB 2018, regardless of their citizenship or visa status. Please contact Alessandro Acquisti to submit an application for a travel grant.

Traveling by Bus

The Greyhound Bus Terminal is located five miles from campus in downtown Pittsburgh. For a detailed transportation schedule, please call 1-800-231-2222. The station terminal is located at the intersection of 11th Street and Liberty Avenue and can be reached by telephone at 412-392-6526.

Traveling by Train

The Amtrak Train Station is located at 1100 Liberty Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh and just four miles from campus. For more information on rates and schedules, please call 1-800-872-7245.

Flying to Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) is 22 miles (approximately 45 minutes driving time) from the Carnegie Mellon campus. For more information, please visit FlyPittsburgh or call 412-472-3525.

Getting to the Workshop from the Airport

Once you arrive at the Pittsburgh International Airport there are several transportation options to bring you to campus or hotel:

Public Bus

The 28X Airport Flyer Bus (sponsored by the Port Authority Transit), is one of the more popular options for visitors. The 28X stops in the heart of the Carnegie Mellon campus and typically takes 40 minutes en route to the airport. The trip is free for Carnegie Mellon students and costs $2.75 for other passengers. Taxi Service/Ride Share

The average Uber/Lyft/taxi fare from the airport to campus is about $45. We recommend that you arrange for a pick up prior to arriving in Pittsburgh. To arrange for a taxi, call Yellow Cab 412-321-8100 or Checker Cab 412-381-5600.

Driving

You can rent a car at Pittsburgh International Airport and follow these directions to get to CMU campus and back.

From Pittsburgh International Airport:

Take Rt 60 South (name will change to Parkway West or I-279). Continue and go through Fort Pitt Tunnel in right-hand lane. Take the first exit on the right after driving through the tunnel (I-376 Monroeville). Take I-376 to the Oakland. Stay in the right-hand lanes, following Forbes 1.3 miles through the Oakland business district to campus. Immediately at the intersection of Forbes Avenue and Beeler Street. CMU and the Heinz College will be on your right.

To Pittsburgh International Airport:

Turn left onto Fifth Avenue. Turn left onto Craft Avenue. Turn right onto the Blvd. of the Allies. Take exit for I-376 West. Follow signs for I-376/Airport. Go through the Fort Pitt Tunnel and onto I-279/Parkway West. Continue east on I-279 (Parkway West/Rt. 60). Follow the signs for the Pittsburgh International Airport.

Parking at the East Campus garage is available at a first come basis. You can find information about parking around campus here.


Where to stay

We have arranged rates and rooms with two hotels close to CMU campus.

The cut-off date for Wyndham Garden is May 1st; there is no cut-off date for Shadyside Inn, but the special rates are on a first-come first-served basis. When making a reservation by phone, mention the SHB Security and Human Behavior Workshop for reserving a room at the discounted rate.
