Writing Exemption Information
In order to exempt a writing class, students must take an online exam through the university’s learning management system, called Canvas.
How to Register to Take This Exam
Pre-registration is required and must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. EST on May 30, 2025 by completing this form. Those who qualify to take the exam will be notified and given access to the exam in Canvas. To qualify to take the exam, students must:
- Submit a current résumé for review
- Possess three or more years of professional experience – beyond an internship – in a workplace relevant to the student’s program of study
- Have been responsible for preparing professional communications relevant to the program of study. (These communications can include: executive summaries, consulting reports, proposals, policy memos, policy one-pagers, and official news releases.)
This timed exam must be started and completed in one sitting, and will consist of a writing prompt with a focus on workplace communication skills. Students will be required to respond to the prompt in real-time through the Respondus Lockdown Browser, and will be held accountable for academic integrity. For guidance on academic integrity, please review the University's policy.
Exam Date and Instructions on How to Access
The exam will only be available through Canvas using the Respondus lockdown browser on June 13, 2025. Please download and open the Respondus lock down browser, then login to Canvas using your Andrew ID and password. The exam will also require you to use a webcam to record your attempt using Respondus Monitor. A separate download is not required for the recording.
