In-Person Location: Petersen Events Center, University of Pittsburgh Campus
Join us as we celebrate and recognize the achievements of our recent graduates!
The event is in-person and will also be broadcast via livestream on Saturday, May 11, 2024. Broadcast begins at 12:30pm ET.
Graduates from the following classes are eligible to participate in the Commencement events:
- August 2023
- December 2023
- May 2024
- August 2024 (Master's only)
Graduates must register here by April 15th in order to participate in the Heinz College Hooding, Diploma, and Awards Ceremony.
Ceremony Speakers
Highmark Health CEO David L. Holmberg Will Give the Keynote Address
We are honored to welcome David L. Holmberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Highmark Health, to deliver the keynote address at this year's Heinz College Diploma Ceremony.
A transformative leader, Holmberg joined Highmark Inc. in 2007 and served in a series of executive positions. Under his guidance, Highmark Health successfully navigated implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and orchestrated the financial turnaround of Allegheny Health Network (AHN), which was nearing bankruptcy when it was acquired by Highmark Inc. in 2013.
Based in Pittsburgh, PA, Highmark Health's 42,000 employees serve millions of customers nationwide through the nonprofit organization's affiliated businesses. Holmberg is shaping the future of the health care industry by engaging with trade associations, regulators, peer organizations, strategic partners, and government to resolve critical health care issues. Through these efforts, Holmberg is investing to build a better-connected ecosystem for health, coverage and care designed to improve the consumer and clinician experience.
In 2022, Highmark Health launched MyHighmark, a first-of-its-kind health platform providing care navigation, shared care plans, virtual and digital health, simplified bill payment, and cost transparency to Highmark’s seven million members.
Apoorva Shetty (MSPPM-DA '24) Is Selected as Student Speaker
We are delighted to announce that this year's student speaker for the Heinz College Diploma Ceremony is Apoorva Shetty from the Public Policy and Management - Data Analytics program. Apoorva was selected by her peers to address our graduates at the Diploma Ceremony on Saturday, May 11. Congrats, Apoorva!
Apoorva is from Pune, India. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering from KJ Somaiya College of Engineering at Mumbai University. Building on what she has learned through her studies in undergraduate and graduate school, Apoorva plans to work in the field of public interest technology where she can use data science for social good.

Heinz College Ceremony Venue Details
The Heinz College Ceremony will be held at the Petersen Events Center to allow for ample space for all our graduates and their guests. NO TICKETS or REGISTRATION FOR GUESTS is needed. All seats will give you a good view, so no worries!
