Special Topics: Designing Smart and Healthy Systems
Designing Smart and Healthy Systems: Applying AI and Data Science to Healthcare. This course is designed to give students who took 49-733: Designing Smart Systems a chance to apply and grow their AI and data science skills in the context of a hands-on design and programming project in healthcare. The project focus will be on the appropriate use of interventions to increase patient engagement and medication adherence. In addition to the project, classes will survey a number of applications of AI and data science in health care and life sciences, with a focus on the unique challenges of using health care data and deploying smart systems for patients and clinicians. We will build on the machine learning concepts introduced in 49-733 with advanced work in behavioral economics, optimization, phenotype discovery and more. Prerequisites: Statistics, Python programming and 49-733 or equivalent experience.
