Daniel Green, Ph.D.
Distinguished Service Professor/Director, Master of Entertainment Industry Management Program
Dan Green is a Distinguished Service Professor and the Program Director for the Master of Entertainment Industry Management program, a joint program between the Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy and the College of Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University.
Dan is a Distinguished Service Professor and Program Director for the Master of Entertainment Industry Management program at Carnegie Mellon University. Dan has worked in television production on several acclaimed programs, including ER, The Sopranos, Party of Five, Time of Your Life, Fantasy Island, The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr., She TV, and The West Wing. He directed the pilot Munhall starring George Wendt (Cheers) and Tom Atkins (Law & Order). Dan directed and produced the film, Entropy, which toured the country on the festival circuit. His documentary, Listen, focused on inner-city teens and was marketed as a teaching tool in classrooms throughout the United States. As a theatre director, Dan has produced work in New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
As a writer, Dan's produced work includes the film, Listen. He has written and directed several commercials and public service announcements. His other writing credits include Canterbury Air, Crew Hours, and Portico (produced in Los Angeles), as well as An Elf Chorus Line (produced in New Jersey). He also directed The Rules of a Muslim in Love in Los Angeles. As a casting director, Dan cast The Kennedy Mystique: Creating Camelot for National Geographic Channel. He also cast Nixon in China ’72 for Central Chinese Television (CCTV), Beijing, China.
Dan received his Ph.D. in Higher Education and Organizational Leadership from Azusa Pacific University. His dissertation examined the experiences of first-generation students at private universities in China, using cultural capital as a lens. He holds an MFA in directing from Carnegie Mellon University and a BA in acting/directing from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. He is a graduate of The Second City and the Players Workshop of The Second City; both located in Chicago.
In addition to his work with the MEIM program, Dan oversees the Sylvia and David Steiner Film Fund. This endowment cultivates and fosters creative screen-based projects at Carnegie Mellon. Dan is a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He is the past president of Carnegie Mellon’s West Coast Drama Alumni Chapter and the past president of the Carnegie Mellon National Alumni Association Board.
Dan serves on the Les Paul Audio Educators’ Advisory Group, whose mission is to promote the legacy of Les Paul as an inventor and innovator in audio technology. He is the immediate past president and current board member of The Association of Arts Administration Educators, which supports arts administration education and faculty to advance the arts. He co-produced their most recent national conference, titled “The Confluence of Cultures.” He is also an International Correspondent for the European Network on Cultural Management and Policy (ENCACT), focusing on Internationalization. Dan recently co-authored a chapter called "Artificial Muse: Reconciling AI and Human Creativity" for the upcoming book, AI in Arts Administration: Pedagogy and Practice.
