John Harrison


Director/Producer/Composer

John Harrison began his career directing rock videos and collaborating with famed horror director, George Romero, on several of his films, notably CREEPSHOW and DAY OF THE DEAD for which he also composed the scores.

Harrison wrote and directed multiple episodes of Romero's classic TV series, TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE, for which he was nominated for a Writer’s Guild Award, before helming Paramount’s TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE, THE MOVIE which won Harrison the Grand Prix du Festival at Avoriaz, France.

Harrison has written and directed multiple TV episodes for US Networks (HBO, NBC, TNT, Netflix among them) and has written and directed world premier movies for the USA Network and Starz/Encore. His 6-hour miniseries adaptation of Frank Herbert's monumental bestseller, DUNE, which he directed, was an Emmy winning success for the SyFy Channel and ProSieben. His adaptation of Herbert’s CHILDREN OF DUNE, which he also co-produced, was another Emmy winner. The supernatural thriller RESIDUE, which Harrison created, wrote and produced in the UK began as a three-episode extended pilot on Netflix in March 2015. Harrison’s action suspense thriller, BLANK SLATE, for producer Dean Devlin, which he wrote and directed, aired recently as twenty episode micro-series on TNT. Clive Barker’s BOOK OF BLOOD, which he wrote and directed, was released in Fall 2009.

He also co-wrote the Disney animated feature, DINOSAUR and he has adapted Clive Barker’s fantasy novels, ABARAT, also for Disney. He also co-produced DIARY OF THE DEAD, reuniting him with friend and mentor, George Romero.

Harrison is currently writing and directing episodes of the new CREEPSHOW TV series for AMC/Shudder, and is writing/producing an 8 episode podcast, SOUNDS SCARY, for Mercury Studios/Universal Music Group and Treefort Media.

Harrison is a founding board member of the George A. Romero Foundation, and is an MFA graduate of Carnegie Mellon University’s famed School of Drama.
