Ryan Smalley
Adjunct Faculty
Ryan Smalley is an Adjunct Professor of Information Technology and Public Policy at the Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University.
Ryan serves as Head of Non-Financial Risk and Enterprise Risk at Scotiabank. He received his M.B.A. from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business and is an undergraduate of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD. Ryan is a certified IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL®) Expert and a member of the it Service Management Foundation (itSMF).
Prior to his current role, Ryan operated as a consultant for the U.S. intelligence community, primarily serving in assignments for the CIA, NSA, and DIA. Additionally, Ryan was a management consultant within IBM’s Global Business Services (GBS) division. Ryan is now a member of the CIO Institute instructor staff and a lecturer within the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) program, both sponsored by Carnegie Mellon University.
Ryan spent over ten years as a helicopter pilot in the U.S. Navy and served multiple combat missions in Iraq and counter-narcotics missions in Central and South America. He now resides outside Pittsburgh, PA, with his wife and three children.
