The Master's of Public Management (MPM) program provides the flexibility to dive deep into the sectors driving the 21st-century economy. Whether you want to pivot into a new field or accelerate your current path, you can customize your elective coursework around four primary focus areas:Public Policy or Nonprofit Management
Master the intersection of mission and metrics. This focus is designed for leaders who want to use evidence-based decision-making to tackle complex social challenges, optimize fundraising, and lead high-impact NGOs or government agencies.

In the age of AI and Big Data, technical fluency is a requirement for leadership. This focus equips you to bridge the gap between technical teams and strategy, ensuring technology serves the public interest.
Electives include Programming R for Analytics, Product Management in IT, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Web Application Development.
Health Care Management
Navigate the complexities of one of the world's most regulated and data-intensive industries. Focus on improving patient outcomes and operational efficiency through advanced data governance and policy analysis.

Master of Public Management students can self-designate a focus area with the guidance of their Academic Advisor. Previous students' focus areas have included: Communications Management, Change Management, Arts Management, and Financial Management. Focus areas are designed by selecting a combination of electives that meet the students stated goals.

Application Deadline
MPM offers three deadlines throughout the year.
- To begin classes during the fall semester in late August, apply by June 1.
- To begin classes during the spring semester in early January, apply by November 1.
- To begin classes during the summer semester in mid-May, apply by March 1.
Submit your application in advance of the deadline to receive a decision sooner! You'll be notified of the committee's decision approximately three to five weeks after you submit your online application and all required supporting materials. International students admitted to the part-time MPM program are not eligible for I-20 sponsorship through Carnegie Mellon University.
