New Student Orientation

For students starting classes in August 2023

Welcome to the Heinz College Community! We are excited to introduce you to Carnegie Mellon University and life as a Heinzer. As a new student, we believe that orientation is the best way to prepare you for your upcoming experience. During orientation you will have an opportunity to engage with current students, faculty, staff, and other new incoming students. Over the course of the summer you will be invited to participate in asynchronous online, live online, and in-person on campus orientation sessions. Attendance at all orientation sessions is mandatory and we encourage active participation. The more you put in towards your onboarding, the better prepared you will be for day one and beyond.

Orientation kicks off with access to our Digital Orientation Library. This on-demand video library will provide students with pre-recorded sessions that will cover themes ranging from the Heinz College student experience to suggestions for moving to Pittsburgh. You are asked to view all videos by August 20, 2023.

Beginning July 6th we will offer live online orientation sessions. These sessions will be hosted by our Program Directors, Career Services team, Heinz College Academic & Advising Services, Admissions and Financial Aid, and more! Take note: attendance at all sessions is mandatory. And of course, let’s not forget to have some fun meeting and connecting with other incoming students through C-Squads! Additional orientation events/sessions may be added later in the summer, so please visit this site regularly. Don’t forget to register for each event and add them to your own personal calendar as well (hint – this is how you will receive reminders to join the session)!

Finally, Orientation will wrap up with four days of mandatory in-person, on-campus sessions starting on August 21st. The in-person sessions will prepare students both socially and professionally for the start of their degree. See the in-person orientation agenda below for more details.

If you haven't received your Andrew ID, please let us know ASAP! You'll need your Andrew ID to access or participate in some orientation sessions.
