For students starting classes in August 2021
Welcome to the Heinz College Community! We are excited to introduce you to Carnegie Mellon University and life as a Heinzer. As a new student, we believe that orientation is the best way to prepare you for your upcoming experience. During orientation you will have an opportunity to engage with current students, faculty, staff, and other new incoming students. Over the course of the summer you will be invited to participate in asynchronous online, live online, and in-person on campus orientation sessions. You are encouraged to attend and actively participate in as many orientation sessions as you can. The more you put in over the summer, the better prepared you will be for day one.
Starting on June 1st, we are excited to offer our Digital Orientation Library. This on-demand library will provide students with pre-recorded sessions that will cover themes ranging from the Heinz College student experience and welcome messages from Heinz constituents to virtual tours of campus and suggestions for moving to Pittsburgh.
Beginning June 28th we will offer live online orientation sessions. These sessions will be hosted by our Program Director’s, Career Services team, Heinz Academic Services, Admissions and Financial Aid, Faculty, and more! Heads up – some of these sessions will be mandatory. And of course, let’s not forget to have some fun meeting and connecting with other incoming students through events such as Trivia night. Once a session is finalized, it will be added to the calendar below. Don’t forget to add these events to your own personal calendar as well (hint – this is how you will receive reminders to join the session)!
Finally, Orientation will wrap up with four days of optional in-person, on campus sessions starting on August 23rd. The in-person sessions will prepare students both socially and professionally for the start of their degree. All sessions will be modified to follow local, county, state, and/or Federal guidelines pertaining to social distancing, group gatherings, and COVID-19 protocols. See the in-person orientation agenda below.
If you haven't received your Andrew ID, please let us know ASAP! You'll need your Andrew ID to access or participate in some orientation sessions.Get the latest information on Coronavirus testing, vaccinations, services, research, and community resources at CMU - COVID-19 Updates.
