English Language Proficiency Exam Results
Follow the detailed instructions below (if required) to successfully submit your English Language Proficiency Exam Results to Heinz College as part of your application for admission.
If your native language (mother tongue) is not English, you are required to submit an official score report from the TOEFL or IELTS. The only exceptions are for students who have worked or studied for five or more years in Australia, Botswana, Canada, Ghana, Ireland, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom, United States, and/or Zambia.
The test scores must be reported directly to Heinz College by the testing service. We strongly recommend that you take the TOEFL or IELTS at least one month prior to the application deadline.
You may submit scores from up to four valid TOEFL or IELTS exam dates. If you have taken the exam more than once, Heinz College will use the highest score verified in each section in reviewing your application for admission. For every score you wish to include with your application, you must report the exam date(s) and submit the official score report(s). We will not accept exam scores for test dates that are not listed on the application.

Submitting Your Results
If you took either of these tests more than two years ago, you MUST take one of the tests again. The testing agency will not verify scores that are more than two years old.
If your score is below the minimum on either exam, you should consider retaking the TOEFL/IELTS before applying. Carnegie Mellon University and the Heinz College will not issue an I-20 to any individual with scores below our published minimums.
If your test date is within one month of the application deadline, please be sure to email the scores to the Heinz College Office of Admissions and instruct the testing agency send us your score report upon submitting your application for admission to expedite the review process.
If you are an MSHCPM applicant and are applying via the HAMPCAS system, please have your TOEFL scores sent to Heinz College using the aforementioned codes for our school.
